Latin America's Largest Cultural Center Opens its Doors

Argentine President Cristina Fernandez inaugurated the Nestor Kirchner Cultural Center in Buenos Aires yesterday. The cultural center is Latin America's largest, covering 100,000 square meters. It is expected to receive five million visitors per year. In her opening remarks, Fernandez said that from 2003 to 2015, the Argentine government had allocated US$14 billion to cultural infrastructure, not including the cinema institute and other Cultural Ministry projects.

Argentina: Intellectuals Meet at Jose Marti Event

Argentine Ministers of Education, Social Development, and Foreign Affairs together with leading national and foreign academicians and intellectuals met in Buenos Aires on Monday for the 10th meeting of the World Council of the Jose Marti International Solidarity Project. The project aims to popularize the teachings of Jose Marti, the Cuban national hero and independence fighter and a leading figure in Latin American emancipation. The timeliness of Marti's thinking for today's Latin America was emphasized by participants in the gathering. The meeting was also attended by the Secretary General of the Union of South American Nations Ernesto Samper.

Solidarity with Venezuela urged at Emancipation and Equality Forum

Intellectuals and politicians from all over the world are attending the three-day Emancipation and Equality Forum at the Cervantes National Theatre in Buenos Aires. In their discussions on how to overcome neoliberalism, it was noted that 50 million people in Latin America have been lifted out of poverty in the last 15 years. Bolivia's Vice President insisted that Venezuela is the key to Latin America and that in case of a US invasion or any type of aggression the entire continent would lose.
